Nerve Conditions
Dr Loch-Wilkinson has a subspecialty interest in peripheral nerve conditions requiring surgery and undertook post fellowship training in peripheral nerve surgery at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Canada. Dr Loch-Wilkinson takes a particular interest in peripheral nerve compressive problems, peripheral nerve tumours and genetic disorders causing peripheral nerve tumours such as neurofibromatosis.
There are many peripheral nerve conditions that can lead to pain or dysfunction a number of which may benefit from surgery. Some conditions for example peripheral neuropathy from chronic diabetes are better being managed non-operatively with treatment prescribed by your GP or a Neurologist physician. Many peripheral nerve conditions may present with symptoms that mimic other disorders such as spinal or other muskuloskeletal conditions requiring careful diagnosis and tailored management.

As part of the assessment and management of your peripheral nerve condition Dr Loch-Wilkinson may refer you for further investigations such as nerve conduction or EMG studies or for further imaging such as MRI scan or ultrasound. You may be referred for non-operative treatment by a physician, physiotherapist or occupational therapist or be recommended to have surgery.
